Why I shop here

These are difficult times economically and many people are making hasty choices. The recent trampling death at a Long Island Walmart is just one example of how easy it is for people to get carried away It is not the first time this has happened.

More and more people are making safer consumer choices by shopping from home. For myself, I shop online a lot more. And I go to familiar places like this birding guides store. I trust them. They carry more than birding guides but I have a good safe and trusting feeling when I am there.

I Learn everywhere

Libraries and bookstores are my great places to browse. And now that I cannot get out and around as much as I used to, I spend a lot of time on the internet doing readings and research. So I am talking to people and doing online research about home based businesses. Looking over home based business review sites I am learning what to trust and what to skim over.

Exploring is contagious

The call of nature brings me to do outdoor exploring whenever I can. When I cannot get outdoors to explore, I rely on reading about other adventures in books and online.

Since I love birds and nature I often look for special times when I can take my favorite birding guide and bird binoculars and take a walk even around the neighborhood or in a city park. It was simple things like this that got some of the great environmental movements started, individual people noticing small changes in which birds are numerous and which ones are no longer around. Rachel Carson’s book called Silent Spring was based on her awareness of the lack of springtime songbirds Rachel Carson’s work and her scientific background was all she needed for credibility and she was a catalyst for major environmental movements in America in the 1970’s.

Someone asked me a great sat essay question “Is using Sarah Palin as an example a good idea in my SAT Essay?”  Here’s how I responded: Despite this being an election year talking about politics in your SAT Essay, even an amazing historic event such as the nomination of Sarah Palin as McCain’s VP, is a definite no no.

Here’s why: 1.  Politics brings up strong emotions. Your essay may bias graders in your favor if they agree with you and they may drop your score without realizing it if they disagree with you.

2.  Present-day politics is something “everyone knows.” SAT Essay graders love it when a student shows they learend something IN school.  The best way to do this is to write about things that you would only learn about in school–like French Revolution or To Kill A Mockingbird.  Contemporary politics is just doesn’t cut it.

3.  Thousands of students will be writing about the exact same thing. This wouldn’t be so bad except that many ofthese students won’t know what they are talking about because their opinions are based on cable and internet news.  If you write about the same thing you’ll immediately be put into the same class and lose points.

Fortunately for you there is an easy way to make sure you have all the examples you need for your SAT Essay on test day. In the SAT Essay Formula I teach the 3-part strategy that allows you to use your current knowledge to answer any test prompt.
