I love summer. Sometimes I forget how much when it’s over 100 degrees outside and I’m sweating like a pig, but during early summer when it’s no more than 85 degrees and the winds aren’t blowing dirt in my face I really love being outside. Our house is in the middle of the block and we have somehow become the center point for every kid in the area to gather.
We now spend more time outside thanks to the purchase of our new patio furniture. It’s pretty impressive. It was more than I wanted to spend initially but we also got 4 pieces instead of just 2 chairs. They’re reasonably comfortable and allow us to sit outside and watch the world without getting dirty on the porch floor and instead looking like civilized humans. We already had a outdoor glider, but needed something else for other people, too.
Our view from this angle on the front porch allows us to watch the neighborhood as they come crawling out of their winter dwellings and start doing yardwork, putting up new vinyl siding colors and replacing the roof. There are a dozen different outdoor projects we can do and it seems like the neighbors are interested in all of them. As long as they aren’t too loud it doesn’t bother us much.
I read a report on the news sites that said more homeowners are doing small house projects right now because of the recession. That seems logical. However I know that bigger projects are still going on in my neighborhood. It’s a good thing to see in this struggling economy. Maybe we’ll get out of it yet.
