Even though the economy is bad, we still need a little vacation now and then. I have wondered if you can stay on a tight budget and still get away on a short trip. The major travel websites tend to all offer similar travel deals that can save money.
When you select from among the various online travel companies, you are looking for the best price for car rental, hotel rooms and airline tickets, and also a trip without logistical problems. I can look for the best prices on airfare and hotel rooms, but if I find a travel destination where I can drive my own car, it might save me even more. One obvious choice is Southern California.
You’ll find a bunch of information and advice related to Southern California at the SoCal Vacation Guru website. It presently places most of its attention on Los Angeles and Orange County, with a modest but growing emphasis on San Diego County and San Bernardino and Riverside Counties. But there’s great information at the SoCal Vacation Guru about Universal Studios Hollywood, Disneyland, the beaches, shopping, dining and other activities.
The SoCal theme parks include Disneyland (with Disney’s California Adventure), Knott’s, Six Flags Magic Mountain, Universal Studios Hollywood, SeaWorld and Legoland. Of course visiting all of those would not be particularly cheap, but you could fit a lot of vacation fun into a short period of time. The slow economy is unfortunate, but there are great deals on hotel reservations to be found if your budget allows for it, with many vacation-oriented businesses really wanting your business.
In slow economic times the theme parks tend to offer more discounts, as to the museums and other activities. Despite increases and fluctuations in gasoline prices, a driving trip to So Cal might well be a cheaper vacation option for many Americans than flying to another vacation destination.
