How to cook your turkey to perfection
When it is cooked right then turkey is a joy to eat and makes a great meal, but if you cook it wrong then it becomes a real pain to try and eat all that dry and tasteless meat. The best way to cook your turkey to make sure it is going to be juicy is to fry it, the oven just dries it out, but a fryer will make the skin go all crispy and keep the rest of the meat moist as the juices stay inside.
When it comes to frying your turkey then most people like to use a propane one, probably because it is a bit faster and seems cooler to have it out in the yard cooking while you are out there, but I am always worried about starting a fire with them, or knocking it over. I prefer an indoor electric turkey fryer, it does take slightly longer to warm up after putting the bird in but it is a lot safer as it stays indoors away from dogs and kids that might be running around outside, and it regulates the temperature of the oil for you so that it never gets to the point where it will set on fire (and it helps to cook the turkey perfectly too).
You need to fry it for around 4 minutes per pound of turkey, and you should check it once you finish with a meat thermometer to make sure the inside is about 165 – 170 degrees Fahrenheit and is fully done. Then serve it up with some sweet potatoes and all the trimmings and you have the perfect Thanksgiving meal, or just a great meal anytime.
